The ground, covered with the blue and emerald eyes of spiders, sparkled in the light. The clouds drifted by like smoke from steel factories across a pink and grey sky in the city. We hiked around like burglars chasing trails with the beams of our criss-crossing lights. Grey rabbits we could fit into our cupped hands jumped out across our paths. Walking out, we passed a camp on the side of a hill where faceless men stoked a blazing fire. I couldn’t see them, but I could feel them, watching us from the treeline, as we hit the gravel and hi-fived, and made our way out of the woods.
